For the last 12+ years, I have been volunteering with an organization called Something New. Last year I was able to take my 2 oldest kids to Peru to volunteer. It was a life changing trip for us. Much of the work there is focused on helping Venezuelan refugees. People experiencing tremendous hardship long before anyone had heard of COVID-19.
Throughout this quarantine I have been watching my friends and co-laborers endure a very strict lockdown in Peru. An economy already busting at the seams with poverty and lack has been completely shut down for weeks now. People are starving. No one has been able to work....
My friends have been asking for support, and today, for Giving Tuesday, I am joining them in asking. The complete shutdown in Peru is expected to last several more weeks. Without outside help, people will not be able to buy food, or pay for shelter.
Join me in supporting. I believe in what Something New is doing because they are not only feeding people, they are building community. In a time when many feel more disconnected than ever, we can be a part of creating connections, that is something everyone needs more of.
Help me support good in the world and make a difference. Every donation will go a long way to helping vulnerable refugees have what they need during this difficult time.
